Life Got in My Way, But I am Back

As I log in today for the first time in months, I was disappointed to find everything I worked hard on “needing work”. We tend to get complacent and go back to old ways letting life itself get in our way of dreams and ideas we try to build. When I saw the stars today for this site, Try Wise Budgeting with Donna, I was heartbroken and felt I have disappointed for those following me. It won’t be easy, but know I am still here for you.

I Am Back!

It is true I am back to work, almost full time since the outbreak of Covid, but I am still committed to my passion here as well. I know very well how you feel in your struggles with balancing your finances to make ends meet. Yet, disappointed that I seem to have let you down the past few months. Seeing the words that my office space, this website, “needs work” made me feel I have let YOU down, and I don’t like that – I don’t want you to feel that way either.

So let me share my plan – for the month of April and those months to follow I am committing to just TWO bi-weekly articles a month and asking for your support. I hope you will be inclined to share your experiences and questions with each new post to help me get back on track. I am also going to post a five-minute weekly podcast.

I feel starting with small and very doable steps like this right now will help me re-connect to YOU, and help me to get back on track where my life got in my way, but I am back and want to reconnect with you.

Next Up…

I will be adding the new “Wise Budgeting with Donna” newsletter in May as a seasonal, quarterly issue. It will come straight to your in-box as a PDF as I now some people are more visual and need something they can print out and keep handing to refer back to. Please share your ideas! Let me now in the comments some things you would like to see included in this newsletter.

Still, More to Come…

Well, that is enough for now to work on, especially where I am back to work in the restaurant full time since last July. There is another biggie I want to take on towards the end of this year – but for now, I will hold you in suspense. You will hear more in the months that follow – but right now I feel that best way to get back on track helping people like you budget wisely is slow and steady.

Now It’s YOUR Turn…

Show your support by signing up to receive my newsletter, once it is out – I have a new link to keep all my fans together and to show my appreciation I will share how to get started understanding just where your money is going.  You will be surprised.

What is This Angel in my Change – True Worth Identified

Have You Received A Beautiful Golden Angel Coins with Your Change?

Well, I got one from the stamp machine a few years back and put it aside. This evening I came across it again and decided to take a closer look. There was no markings on the outside edge that a true coin generally has stating “In God We Trust”, the year minted and any minting place designation. Then I flipped the coin over and noticed the same Angel image on the back.

Hmm… this Beautiful Angel Coin is NOT a Coin at AllAngel Token

As I googled my description of this piece, it became clear what I had thought was a $1 gold coin was not a coin at all, but a token passed as a coin. The golden finished piece was so beautiful I held onto it think it was just a new $1 coin that came out.

What I Learned About This Is…

It is nothing but a guardian angel token for Good Luck given out by the Catholic Relief Services. There is no gold in “dem dar pieces” either, but the golden finish makes them very appealing to anyone receiving one. I read in a comment on Reddit that some ex-Catholics believe the token is haunted – and another received their coin as a teen and was told that it was a reminder to them that God is always with them in troubling times.1

Well, then I found a site that made it seem more like there is some mystique and promise as I read,  “the Legend of the Angel Coin in that whoever owns one of these is promised love, money, and happiness. The original “Angel Coin” was minted by Augustine Dupre, a nobleman who was commissioned by King Louis XVI in 1792 to design the new monetary currency for France. A firm believer in the power of guardian angels, Dupre incorporated this theme into his design using a mold of unknown material created by an alchemist known only as Le stat.

Years later, when Dupre fell out of favor with the King and was condemned to death, legend has it that he was saved from the guillotine when the Coin he carried as a talisman reflected the sunlight in his jail cell so brilliantly one day that the guard on duty broke into tears at the sight, unlocked the cell door, and let Dupre make his escape.

From that moment on, Dupre’s creation became known as the “Angel Coin”. He considered it a blessing for his life-long belief in angels.” 2

Do These Tokens Carry Any Worth?

Well, as far as monetary or collector value, they have no value other than they are intended to bring a peace of mind to the bearer with a feeling of good luck wished upon them.

What Could I Expect to Get for on Marketplace or at a Flea Market?

Well, if you have one of these token that is worn, you could expect to get less than a dollar. If in fairly good condition, you could get $1. If it is fully uncirculated, you could ask $4.00 for it. As for this token, and I am not a Catholic just a humble Episcopalian, and I think I will make a necklace out of it and ask God to please bring good luck to whoever wears it.3

About Try Budgeting with Donna

About Learning to Budget Wisely

Are you struggling financially, living paycheck to paycheck, and still facing concerns about what your life will look like unless you change – well folks, you are NOT alone.

Realizing later in lifetime was passing by and I had been focused on working to make ends meet and paying off my mounting debt that started when I was only 19 when I got my first card after inquiring “how does one build credit?” Once you start on the credit avenue it is easy to get lost in debt, and keeping up can be time-consuming. Most of my life was a roller-coaster ride, and then one day while shoveling my stepdad came out and said something that really changed my life, One line still rings out, “Of all people, I always saw you as one who would be most likely to succeed in life.”

This line triggered an immediate thought, “Had I disappointed him and my mom?” I felt awful and from that time on my life changed. Suddenly I realized I was close to retirement and felt I was not prepared. Where had the time of my life gone? I missed out on family and children.

I had to pickup the pieces from that point and reorganize the rest of my life and instill quality and purpose. Immediately I sat down and figured out what I had, and put together a list of all places my money was going. I realized what people need to live independently full lives over 55 is a budget, and if I had learned this sooner, I know I could have amassed a healthier financial picture. As I worked on my own budget, I suddenly realized I cannot be alone and now I am inviting others who have been through similar or worse an opportunity to try wise budgeting with me to work toward a better life, independent and built a healthier financial life style.

While this program is geared to people over 55 struggling with the feeling they may never be able to retire – I invite younger people to join to witness how if they are going down a similar path, they still have time to change their path for an even brighter and fuller financial picture later in life.

Please share YOUR story now and let’s try some wise budgeting with me (Donna) to rebuild your life and create new dreams for a more independent and successful retirement.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

3 Great Ways To Budget Your Way to Prosperity

If only I knew back in my earlier years what I know now, it doesn’t matter how much money we make or have to spend that counts – it is more simply that you need to budget your way to a prosperous future. Hopefully by the end of this article you will have a better turning point that will get you there. Right now you may be feeling stressed stuck at home, no work and collecting unemployment – you are wondering, how are we going to make it? Well, dear, don’t blame the current situation and get stressed. Use your time to reorganize and reshape your family’s pocketbook.

Let’s outline four steps that will definitely help you take back control of your finances and help you breathe easier:

Take A Good Look At Your Household Finances

You have heard you should never put all your eggs in one basket. Same for your budget – you need to see it from different perspectives. I have come to rely on YNAB (short for, You Need A Budget) for my general monthly budgeting and management. It has helped me to take back control and see where my money has been wandering off too. I have tried other programs and keep coming back. One thing bothered me however, my current expenses are being paid and minimum debt. Retired now, this scares me seeing debt and realizing I may never see -0- debt until I am well past eighty.

Don’t Let Frustration Get the Best of You!

So now I had to come up with a plan for the debt portion. My goal to eliminate as quickly and painlessly as possible. One thing the pandemic did was give me time on some debt by taking a forbearance on my student loans. Some days I ponder if that was the right move, but when I tried to work out a deal with Home Depot I was met with much resistance, It was when they hit me with a walloping interest in the middle of this crisis I decided I had to find another way,

Before You File Bankruptcy – STOP AND TAKE A BREATH!

Being Never one to go forward with a bankruptcy mark on my head, I decided to look at my debt and come up with a plan. I saw an ad for Freedom Debt Relief and decided to call. I instantly felt a calm come over me as the lady told me that they could take 6-7 cards off my plate, and still leave me with four to manage on my own. I held my breath a moment as she got ready to tell me what I would have to pay and when she asked me how $278 a month sounded I let out a big sigh. I could afford that, and the best was yet to come – she told me to pay that every month and I will graduate from the program in four years – DEBT FREE! Yet, I would still have four cards available to help rebuild my credit on the right foot,

If you are struggling with debt, call Freedom Debt Relief at 800-655-6303 and speak with an agent. Follow the plan they set up for you, and focus on that celebration at the end of the program when you are debt free and in control.

I have come to trust the staff that is behind the scenes there to give advice to its members with the Albert App, Now, not only am I current with my monthly bills – but getting rid of 6-7 cards, AND realized that Albert is helping me SAVE an extra $200 a month in an Albert savings account.

I want to share my first live video I did tonight on facebook.  I promise they will only get better.  Please leave a comment!!

Another tip as you are going over your budget:

Take just a few moments each day to balance your accounts and set aside a small portion into savings. Just 10-cents aday, can grow immensely to pay for something you want in the future and not have to use debt to get it.   When you use cash instead of credit, you own those things outright from the very start!
